A deadly attack was carried out by terrorists on an Army patrol in the remote forest area of Machedi in Kathua of Jammu region on July 8, resulting in the death of five soldiers, including a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO).
In a major breakthrough, Jammu and Kashmir Police has arrested five terrorist associates involved in the killing of soldiers and other terror-related activities in Kathua-Bani-Kishtwar area. The identities of the arrested persons have not been disclosed as their ongoing interrogation is expected to lead to more arrests in Kathua, Doda, Kishtwar and neighbouring districts.

The Kathua ambush was followed by another attack by a separate group of militants in Desa forest of Doda district on July 15, resulting in the death of four Army personnel, including a Captain.
Earlier on June 9, terrorists killed nine passengers, including seven pilgrims returning from the Shiv Khori temple, in Reasi district. The terrorists involved in the attack are also absconding and are absconding despite a cash reward on their heads. Meanwhile, the anti-terrorism operation in the forest area of Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir continued for the third day on Monday and the security forces have expanded the search area to eliminate the terrorists.
