Lucknow. Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati is seen to be very active regarding the by-elections and reservations to be held on 10 assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh. Alarmed by the way BJP, Samajwadi Party and Congress leaders are trying to become the leaders of Dalits in the name of reservation, Mayawati has said that sub-classification of castes and exclusion of creamy layer in SC/ST category reservation are both dangerous. First of all, if we talk about by-elections, then BSP, which usually keeps distance from by-elections, has intensified preparations for the by-elections to be held on 10 assembly seats of the state which have fallen vacant as a result of the Lok Sabha elections. In a meeting with senior officials and district presidents in the state office of BSP yesterday, BSP president Mayawati made it clear that her party will contest elections on all the seats. By-elections are to be held on Milkipur, Karhal, Sisamau, Kundarki, Ghaziabad, Phulpur, Majhawan, Katehari, Khair and Meerapur seats in the state.
Mayawati said that BSP is the party of the poor, the exploited and the oppressed. Everyone should work hard and remain united in increasing the support base of the party. The BSP chief also targeted the central and UP governments. She said, the BJP government has failed to stop poverty, unemployment, inflation and backwardness. And to divert the attention of the people, they are conspiring to create every kind of caste and religious frenzy, controversy, including destructive bulldozer politics. She said that an attempt is being made to divide them by making a new conspiracy of a new law on religious conversion and sub-classification of SC-ST society people on the basis of caste into a creamy layer. Mayawati alleged that the Modi government is refusing to conduct caste-based census and is forcibly interfering in the operation of mosques and madrasas and protection of Waqf. It is being discussed that BSP has finalized the tickets of Pratik Pandey from Katehari and Shivbaran Pasi from Phulpur, although it has not been officially announced.

On the other hand, amid the political turmoil after the Supreme Court’s decision on reservation for Dalits, Mayawati has questioned the claims made by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge regarding reservation. In a post on X, she said that the entire credit for reservation goes to Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar. The Congress people conspired to stop Babasaheb from entering the Constituent Assembly and also defeated him in the elections. Along with this, they forced him to resign from the post of Law Minister. Mayawati wrote that in the statement of the Congress Party, the credit for reservation has been given not to Babasaheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar but to Pandit Nehru and Gandhiji, in which there is not even an iota of truth. In another post, she wrote that the National President of Congress said that before revealing the party’s stand regarding sub-classification of SC-ST classes in the country, his party will consult NGOs and lawyers. It is clear from this that Congress is in favor of sub-classification.
