Shillong, Aug 12: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Monday met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and briefed him about the situation along the India-Bangladesh border in the state. Shah was also informed about the night curfew imposed along the border to prevent cases of illegal immigration. Sangma was accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong during the meeting in Delhi. “Today we had a meeting with the Union Home Minister to review the overall situation in the border areas keeping in view the current situation in Bangladesh,” Sangma said.

The chief minister said he told Shah that the Border Security Force (BSF) along with the Army was keeping a strict vigil on the border. “The Meghalaya police is also on high alert and we have informed them that night curfew has been imposed to further strengthen the overall security in the border area,” he said. Sangma said Shah assured him that the Centre will not allow illegal immigration and all steps are being taken to ensure security of the border.
