On February 28, he and 200 others were booked for rioting in Thane four days earlier. Mehta and other rioters protested in front of a local police station and then went to Vasant Mane’s house, where Mehta threatened him and his family. After this, Mehta and the rioters vandalized Mane’s house. He is also the owner of Seven Eleven Group. In the 2019 Maharashtra Assembly elections, he lost to Geeta Bharat Jain by about 15,535 votes.
