Para badminton player Nitesh Kumar managed to win the gold medal in the men’s singles SL3 category at the Paris Paralympics 2024. He defeated Daniel Bethell of Great Britain 21-14, 18-21, 23-21. However, it was not easy for Nitesh to reach here as there was a time when he was bedridden for months and his morale was completely broken. Let us tell you that at the age of just 15, Nitesh became a victim of a train accident, and during this he lost one of his legs.

After this accident, Nitesh was surrounded by a lot of despair. He learned badminton while studying at IIT-Mandi and then he made this game his strength. He himself has told that his childhood was a little different. He used to play football and then this accident, which took him away from the game and made him focus on studies. But the game then comes back into his life.

Taking inspiration from the humility of para shuttler Pramod Bhagat and star cricketer Virat Kohli, Nitesh rebuilt his life. He himself said that Pramod Bhaiya has been my inspiration. Not only because of how skilled and experienced he is but also because of how humble he is as a human being. I admire the way Virat Kohli has transformed himself into a fit athlete. Now he is so fit and disciplined.
