priyanka gandhi first reaction on attacks on hindus in bangladesh

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Monday said reports of continued attacks on minorities in neighbouring Bangladesh are disturbing and expressed hope that the government there will ensure the safety of Hindus, Christians and Buddhists. The Congress general secretary said that discrimination, violence and attacks on the basis of religion, caste, language or identity are unacceptable in any civilised society. She wrote on Twitter that reports of continued attacks on minorities in neighbouring Bangladesh are disturbing. Discrimination, violence and attacks on the basis of religion, caste, language or identity are unacceptable in any civilised society.

Priyanka Gandhi further said that we hope that the situation in Bangladesh will soon become normal and the newly elected government there will ensure security and respect for people following Hindu, Christian and Buddhist religions. Earlier, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav wrote in his post that no community, whether it is the majority of Bangladesh with a different viewpoint or the minority following Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist or any other religion-sect-belief, should become a victim of violence. The SP chief further said that the Indian government should strictly raise this matter at the international level as a protection of human rights. This is also a very sensitive issue of our defense and internal security.

Bangladesh interim leader Mohammad Yunus on Saturday condemned attacks on minority communities in the violence-hit country, terming them “heinous”, and urged the youth to protect all Hindu, Christian and Buddhist families from harm. Several Hindu temples, homes and businesses were vandalised, women were attacked and at least two Hindu leaders affiliated with Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League party were killed in the violence that swept Bangladesh after the Hindus fled the country, according to community leaders in Dhaka.
