Stalin had already announced that he would boycott the NITI Aayog Governing Council meeting to be chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Party sources confirmed this on Friday and said that the party will hold protests across the state on July 27.

The party said that protests will be held at all district headquarters and district officials and MPs and MLAs will lead the demonstrations. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the budget in Parliament on July 23. Just hours after this, Stalin had said that Tamil Nadu has been completely ignored in the Union Budget. He had said that he would boycott the Niti Aayog meeting to be held in Delhi on July 27 under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister. Stalin had termed the budget as disappointing and said that he felt it was appropriate to boycott the Niti Aayog meeting, as the Center has completely ignored Tamil Nadu.
