The USA created the first upset of the tournament by defeating former champions and runners-up Pakistan in the Super Over. Pakistan was defeated by Zimbabwe in the last T20 World Cup and recently Babar Azam’s team lost to Ireland in a bilateral series.

Dallas. Pakistan captain Babar Azam, stunned by the unexpected defeat in the Super Over in the first match of the T20 World Cup at the hands of the USA, admitted that taking the opposing team lightly proved costly for his team. The USA made the first upset of the tournament by defeating former champion and previous runner-up Pakistan in the Super Over. Pakistan was defeated by Zimbabwe in the last T20 World Cup and recently Babar Azam’s team lost to Ireland in a bilateral series.

Babar said in the post-match press conference, “In any tournament, best preparation is necessary. It is a matter of mentality. You take things lightly against teams like associate countries.” He said, “You are unable to implement your strategy and the opposing team defeats you. This is what happened with us. Our preparation was good but we could not implement the strategy in the match.”

He said, “I am disappointed. We did not perform well in all three departments. We did not take advantage of the first six overs and kept losing wickets continuously after the tenth over due to which we could not build rhythm. The batsmen will have to improve their performance.” He said about the bowlers, “We could have done better than this. We could not take wickets in the first six overs. We were under pressure due to the spinners not getting wickets in the middle overs.” Pakistan is to play against arch-rival India on Sunday.
