TVS to ramp up electric two-wheeler sales in developing, developed markets: CEO

New Delhi: TVS Motor Company is planning to increase sales of its electric vehicles (EVs) in developing and developed markets. The company’s director and chief executive officer (CEO) K N Radhakrishnan said that India has the potential to emerge as a major export hub for electric two-wheelers and the company is paying full attention to it. He told analysts that the company will meet the needs of other neighbouring markets in the ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) region from its plant in Indonesia, where it started selling its electric scooter TVS iQube last year.
TVS Motor Company sold a total of 52,000 electric two-wheelers in the April-June quarter of the current financial year, as against 39,000 vehicles in the same period last year. Radhakrishnan said, “We strongly believe that India will emerge as a major export hub for two-wheeler electric vehicles. Given the continued improvement in the EV supply chain and infrastructure, we are confident that we will remain strong in the EV segment.” He said, “As far as we are concerned, we will definitely start exporting our EV products to ASEAN markets and advanced testing and everything is already being done there…”
Radhakrishnan said the company has a well-planned product range for EVs and will launch some of them soon. Last year, we started launching TVS iQube in ASEAN and Asian markets, he said. Radhakrishnan said TVS has its own plant in Indonesia and some local sources and the benefit of ASEAN FTA will also help the company to export to other countries from there.
