Many Congress leaders are keen to contest elections from Bandra (East) but are now stuck in political tussle.
As Maharashtra Assembly elections approach, tensions are rising between the Congress in the opposition alliance Mahavikas Aghadi (MVA) and Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena (UBT). The two parties clashed over the Bandra (East) constituency, although the seat-sharing agreement is still on. Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena has declared Varun Sardesai as its candidate from Bandra (East) seat. Aditya Thackeray’s cousin Sardesai has been actively involved in the Yuva Sena for the last 14 years and is considered close to the Thackeray family. Congress leaders have been disappointed by this announcement.

Shiv Sena argued that the UBT alliance gave the Chinchwad seat to the Congress, thus making its candidate for Bandra (East) eligible. The constituency is known for its large Muslim population and hence is an important seat for both the groups. Shiv Sena’s unilateral decision has created dissatisfaction in the Congress, with many party leaders wanting to contest from this key seat.
