Vinesh Phogat CAS Hearing: Hearing in the case of Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat, suspense over silver medal

The CAS decision on the joint silver medal appeal of Indian female wrestler Vinesh Phogat has not been announced yet. After many days, the day has come when the Court of Arbitration for Sports is expected to give its verdict in favor of Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat.

It is noteworthy that when she was weighed before the final match of the Olympics, she was found to be 100 grams overweight and hence she was disqualified. Extremely shocked by this, an appeal was filed in CAS for the joint silver medal and the 29-year-old player also announced her retirement immediately. CAS has deferred its decision on this matter till August 13. If the CAS decision comes in favor of Vinesh Phogat, then India’s Paris 2024 medal tally will reach seven. Phogat has two World Championship bronze medals, three Commonwealth Games gold and several medals in Asian Games and Asian Championships.

CAS statement on delay in decision
Vinesh Phogat CAS hearing verdict live updates: Postponing its decision, CAS said in a statement on Saturday, “The Ad Hoc Division of CAS has extended the time for the sole arbitrator, the Honourable Dr. Annabelle Bennett, to deliver a decision in the case of Vinesh Phogat v. United World Wrestling and International Olympic Committee, until 6 p.m. on August 13, 2024.” “The reference to August 11 in the earlier communication sent by me was in relation to the time given to all parties to submit any additional documents before the sole arbitrator,” the statement said.

The decision on Vinesh’s joint silver medal appeal will be out by 9:30 pm tomorrow. If the decision goes in her favour, it will be her first Olympic medal, that too a gold, and also India’s seventh medal at Paris 2024.
