Responding to the question, Foreign Office spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch said that it is the right of the people of India to decide about their leadership. She said that the country has no comment to make on India’s electoral process. Ahead of Narendra Modi’s swearing-in ceremony as Prime Minister, Pakistan on Friday said it wants “cooperative relations” with all its neighbours, including India. Pakistan’s Foreign Office claimed that it wants resolution of disputes through dialogue. However, when asked why the country did not congratulate Narendra Modi on his election victory, the Pakistan Foreign Office spokesperson was evasive.

Responding to the question, Foreign Office spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch said that it is the right of the people of India to decide about their leadership. She said that the country has no comment to make on India’s electoral process. Heads of state of seven neighbouring countries are attending Narendra Modi’s swearing-in ceremony tomorrow. However, there has been no traditional message from Pakistan. In 2018, when Imran Khan’s party PTI emerged as the single largest party, PM Modi congratulated him before he took oath as Prime Minister. Earlier this year, Modi congratulated Shahbaz Sharif on becoming the Prime Minister of Pakistan.
