However, North Korea has already asked to curb its activity of flying balloons. Angered by the recent campaign of distributing pamphlets by people in South Korea, North Korea had flown balloons filled with garbage towards the neighboring country in the past several days. South Korea said on Sunday that it will take strict action in response to this action of North Korea. However, North Korea has already announced to stop flying balloons across the border.
On Monday, South Korea’s President’s National Security Council said the council had decided to suspend the 2018 inter-Korean agreement, which was aimed at reducing border hostility until mutual trust between the two Koreas was restored. The Security Council said the suspension would allow South Korea to resume military exercises near the North Korean border and respond effectively and promptly to provocations from the neighbouring country.
According to the council, a proposal on the suspension of the agreement will be presented in the Cabinet Council on Tuesday for approval. Since last Tuesday, North Korea has released more than a thousand balloons in different parts of South Korea, which were filled with fertilizer, cigarette butts, pieces of cloth and waste paper. According to the South Korean army, no dangerous substance was found in these balloons.
