Waterlogging due to rain in Delhi, traffic affected

Heavy rain lashed parts of Delhi on Wednesday, leading to waterlogging and traffic disruptions in several areas. The Mayur Vihar weather station recorded 46 mm rainfall between 2.30 pm and 3.30 pm.

Three other weather stations in the city – Najafgarh, Lodhi Road and Safdarjung (main weather observatory) recorded 26 mm, 20.4 mm and 12 mm rainfall respectively. Images from different areas showed waterlogged roads with commuters wading through the water to reach their destinations.

Heavy waterlogging was observed in many areas, leading to traffic jams. Delhi Police wrote on social media platform X that waterlogging near Qutub Minar metro station has affected traffic on both sides of Anuvrat Marg.

Commuters have been advised to avoid this route and plan their journey accordingly. In another post on the social media platform, the police said traffic on Najafgarh Phirni Road was affected due to waterlogging at Dhansa and Bahadurgarh bus stands.

Traffic was also affected due to waterlogging on the route from Hamdard T-point to Khanpur T-point on Mehrauli-Badarpur Road. Commuters have been advised not to travel on this route and plan their journey accordingly.

According to Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) data, the civic body received six complaints of waterlogging on its central control room helpline between 6 am and 6 pm. The areas from which complaints were received include South, West, Rohini, Karol Bagh, Shahdara South and North areas.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the maximum temperature was 32.4 degrees Celsius, which is about two degrees below the season’s normal temperature. The humidity level was recorded at 100 percent at 1.30 pm.
