Sources suggested that Amit Thackeray may contest from Mahim, Bhandup, or Magathane assembly constituencies in Mumbai, with a final decision on his political debut to be taken after confirmation from Raj Thackeray.

The 2024 Maharashtra Assembly elections are likely to see another member of the Thackeray family entering the fray as Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray’s son Amit Thackeray has expressed his desire to contest the upcoming elections. This was revealed during a party meeting held on Monday (September 16). Sources reveal that Amit Thackeray, currently serving as the president of the Maharashtra Navnirman Vidyarthi Sena, has himself expressed interest in contesting the election. He also urged prominent party leaders to enter the fray during the assembly elections that are expected to be the most watched.

Sources suggested that Amit Thackeray may contest from Mahim, Bhandup, or Magathane assembly constituencies in Mumbai, with a final decision on his political debut to be taken after Raj Thackeray confirms. Amit Thackeray has responded to those calls from party leaders, saying he is ready to contest from any constituency. Notably, in July, MNS chief Raj Thackeray had announced that his party will contest the Maharashtra assembly elections alone. “We will contest 200 to 250 seats in the state elections,” Raj Thackeray said. He had earlier extended unconditional support to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the NDA in the Lok Sabha elections.

Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray on Saturday said the good performance of opposition parties Shiv Sena-Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray (Shiv Sena-UBT), Nationalist Congress Party-Sharadchandra Pawar (NCP-SP) and Congress in the recent Lok Sabha elections was not due to an increase in the support base of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) but due to them getting “anti-Modi” and “anti-Shah” votes. Addressing a press conference, Raj Thackeray said the parties led by Uddhav Thackeray and Sharad Pawar will not get these anti-incumbency votes in the assembly elections. The assembly elections are likely to be held in October-November.
