The AAP leader said, “Earlier, soldiers were given training for one year, but under this scheme (Agnipath) you have reduced the training period to six months. Every youth is ready to sacrifice his life for the country, but you are weakening the army.

New Delhi. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Singh on Thursday said that JD (U)’s demand for review of Agneepath scheme is 100 percent right and the scheme should have been withdrawn earlier. Earlier in the day, Janata Dal United (JD-U) leader KC Tyagi told reporters here that the party has demanded a review of the Agneepath scheme and will pursue the issue of caste-based census. Singh told ‘PTI-Video’, Agniveer is a betrayal of Bharat Mata and the army. The Prime Minister should have withdrawn it earlier.

The AAP leader said, “Earlier, the jawan was given training for one year, but under this scheme (Agnipath), you have reduced the training period to six months. Every youth is ready to sacrifice his life for the country, but you are weakening the army. This demand of JD (U) is 100 percent correct.” The government had come up with the ‘Agnipath’ scheme for recruitment in the armed forces in June 2022. This scheme provides for the recruitment of youth in the age group of 17 and a half years to 21 years for four years. Apart from this, there is a provision to retain 25 percent of them in service for the next 15 years.
