Union Minister Piyush Goyal, accompanied by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, visited the Election Commission on Sunday to meet the Chief Election Commissioner and other officials. He urged the Commission to implement several key measures to safeguard the integrity of India’s electoral process. Goyal alleged that some political parties, led by the Indian National Congress and its INDI alliance partners, in connivance with some civil society groups and NGOs, were attempting to undermine the electoral process.

Piyush Goyal said that today a BJP delegation led by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman met the Chief Election Commissioner and Election Commissioners and demanded and urged them to take 4 important steps. He said that firstly, we have requested the Election Commission that every officer involved in the counting process should be fully familiar with the smallest details of the prescribed process and should work diligently with all EC protocols.

Second, to ensure the security of the electoral process during counting and declaration of results…third, to take cognizance of systematic attempts to undermine the electoral process and take strict action against those responsible, he said. During the meeting, the delegation outlined four key requests aimed at ensuring the integrity of the electoral process. They emphasised the need for all officials involved in the counting process to be fully familiar with the laid down procedures and strictly follow all protocols of the Election Commission, Goyal said.
