Beijing. China on Wednesday congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the victory of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the general election and said that it is ready to work with India keeping in mind the overall interests of bilateral relations. The Election Commission of India has declared the results for all the Lok Sabha constituencies. The BJP has won 240 out of 543 Lok Sabha seats while the Congress has won 99 seats. The BJP-led NDA has easily crossed the majority mark by winning more than 272 seats in the Lok Sabha.

However, for the first time since 2014, the BJP failed to achieve the magical figure of 272 on its own. China’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said, “We have noted the results of India’s general election. We congratulate the BJP and NDA led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on their victory.” While answering questions on the results of India’s general election in a press conference, she said that strong and stable relations with India are in the interest of both countries and are conducive to peace and development in the region and beyond.

He said that China is ready to work together with India for the fundamental interests of both countries and their people, keeping in mind the overall interests of their bilateral relations. Relations between the two countries have deteriorated since the standoff began on the East Ladakh border after a violent clash in the Pangong Tso (lake) area in 2020. The two sides have so far held 21 rounds of Corps Commander level talks to resolve the standoff.
