New Delhi: Air India has apologised for the delay in its San Francisco flight and offered them travel vouchers worth $350 each. The flight took off from the national capital after a delay of over 30 hours. Sources said there were 199 passengers on board the flight. The plane took off from the national capital at 09.55 pm on Friday after a delay of over 30 hours and landed in San Francisco at 12.45 pm (IST) on Saturday afternoon. The duration of the flight was around 16 hours.
The Delhi-San Francisco flight was originally scheduled to take off at around 3.30 pm on Thursday but faced extensive delays due to various factors, including technical glitches, faulty air conditioning (AC) system and defects in the payload. In a letter to the passengers of the flight, Air India’s executive vice president and chief operating officer (COO) Klaus Goersch said, “Please forgive me for the delay caused by Air India in getting you to San Francisco. The flight was delayed due to multiple technical disruptions and other operational constraints.”
This letter was written on May 31. It said that as an apology, Air India has offered a ‘travel voucher worth $350’ for future travel with the airline. Passengers will also have the option of taking the equivalent amount instead of using the amount for travel. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Friday issued a show cause notice to Air India for delaying some flights and not taking proper care of passengers.
