IMD issued orange alert after heavy rain in Delhi, traffic disrupted, waterlogging in many areas

New Delhi. Heavy rains lashed many parts of the national capital on Sunday afternoon, leading to waterlogging and traffic jams. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast more rain in Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR) in the evening.
The minimum temperature in Delhi was recorded at 26 degrees Celsius, while the maximum temperature is likely to be 32.0 degrees Celsius, the IMD said. The humidity was recorded at 92 per cent at 8.30 am. The IMD has issued an ‘orange’ alert for Delhi, indicating ‘be prepared’ for extremely bad weather and possible disruption in traffic. Heavy rain occurred in central, south, south-west and east Delhi.

In its latest warning, the IMD has predicted more rain in Delhi-NCR areas in the evening. In view of the heavy rains, the IMD has also issued an advisory for Delhiites, urging them to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel. The Delhi Traffic Police reported traffic disruptions due to waterlogging in many areas.

“Traffic is affected on Najafgarh-Phirni road near Dhansa stand and Bahadurgarh stand. Please avoid these stretches,” the traffic police said in a post on ‘X’. In another post shared with a picture of a road submerged due to rain, the police said waterlogging on Najafgarh Phirni road and breakdown of three cluster buses near Chhawla stand caused traffic disruptions. According to data released by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), seven complaints were received about waterlogging at various places and four about fallen trees.
