Modi is set to take oath for his historic third consecutive term as Prime Minister after the victory of the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) with 293 seats in the Lok Sabha elections.

According to sources, prominent personalities from Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Nepal and Mauritius will be invited to attend Modi’s swearing-in ceremony. Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s media office confirmed that Modi has invited him for the swearing-in ceremony. Wickremesinghe has accepted the invitation. Wickremesinghe congratulated Modi on his election victory over the phone, it said. During the conversation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi invited President Wickremesinghe to his swearing-in ceremony. Modi has also spoken to Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina over the phone.

Diplomatic sources said that in a phone conversation, Modi invited Hasina to attend his swearing-in ceremony and she accepted it. Nepali Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay and Mauritian Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth are set to be invited to Modi’s swearing-in ceremony, the people cited above said. Modi has held separate phone talks with Prachanda. Leaders of regional grouping SAARC (South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation) countries attended Modi’s first swearing-in ceremony when he took the reins as Prime Minister after the BJP’s massive electoral victory. Leaders of BIMSTEC countries had attended Modi’s swearing-in ceremony when he became Prime Minister for the second consecutive time in 2019. Modi is likely to take oath on June 8.
