Monsoon advances towards remaining parts of north-east Bay of Bengal, IMD informed

Normally, the southwest monsoon enters Kerala on June 1 and advances over most parts of northeast India by June 5. Thus, according to the IMD, the southwest monsoon has entered Kerala two days before the normal date and northeast India six days before the normal date.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday said the southwest monsoon has advanced into the remaining parts of northeast Bay of Bengal, Tripura, Meghalaya and Assam and most parts of sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim. Four people died of heatstroke at the Rourkela Government Hospital (RGH) in Sundargarh, Odisha on Friday morning, an official said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took stock of the situation in the wake of floods in northeastern states due to incessant rains in the wake of Cyclone Remal and assured all possible help to all the affected states. The Prime Minister, who is meditating and practicing in Kanyakumari, said in a post on ‘X’ that the central government is closely monitoring the situation in the affected states and officials are working on the ground. In Assam, incessant rains due to the impact of Cyclone Remal have affected over two lakh people in nine districts.
