Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Monday said he has not asked for the resignation of minister B. Nagendra, who is facing charges of illegally transferring funds from a government corporation, and a decision in this regard would be taken based on the report of the Special Investigation Team (SIT).

Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Monday said he has not asked for the resignation of minister B. Nagendra and any decision in this regard would be taken based on the report of the Special Investigation Team (SIT). Nagendra is facing allegations of illegal transfer of funds from a government corporation. Siddaramaiah also questioned the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) asking who are they to set a deadline for the government to remove Scheduled Tribe Welfare Minister Nagendra from the post. The BJP has asked the government to get Nagendra’s resignation by June 6 and threatened to stage protests across the state if it does not do so.

The BJP has demanded a CBI probe into the alleged illegal money transfer case linked to the Karnataka Maharshi Valmiki Scheduled Tribes Development Corporation Limited and the immediate sacking of Nagendra as minister. “I have not asked for (Nagendra’s) resignation… The SIT report is yet to come, it was constituted only a few days ago. Let us see what they give in their report. Once they submit their report, we will take a decision,” the chief minister told reporters in response to a question. Asked if he has sought any clarification from Nagendra, he said, “I have not asked yet. I have to see the preliminary report.”

We will take a decision after seeing the report. Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar said on Saturday that the government will not spare anyone in the case and action will be taken as per law, whoever is involved. The alleged case of illegal money transfer came to light after the corporation’s accounts superintendent Chandrasekhar P committed suicide on May 26. He had written a letter before committing suicide. In the letter, he had mentioned the names of some people, mentioning illegal money transfer and said that the ‘minister’ had given verbal orders for the transfer of money.
