Opposition parties were wiped out in the BJP storm in Arunachal, SKM won in Sikkim, PM Modi congratulated them by tweeting

The BJP retained power in Arunachal Pradesh for the second consecutive term by bagging 46 of the 60 seats. In Sikkim, the ruling Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) registered an impressive victory by defeating rival Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF), winning 31 of the 32 seats, according to Election Commission data (ECI). Counting of votes has begun in Arunachal Pradesh, with the BJP winning 10 seats unopposed. ECI data shows that the National People’s Party (NPEP) won five seats, People’s Party of Arunachal (PPA) won two seats, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Independents won three seats each and Congress won one seat.

Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim voted on April 19. The overall voter turnout in Sikkim was 79.88 per cent while Arunachal Pradesh recorded 82.95 per cent polling. The main contest in Sikkim was between the ruling SKM and Pawan Kumar Chamling’s SDF. The BJP and Congress also fielded their candidates for the elections in the northeastern state. The SKM and SDF fielded 32 candidates each, while the BJP had 31 candidates. The Congress contested 12 seats and the Citizen Action Party-Sikkim had candidates on 30 seats. In 2019, the Prem Singh Tamang-led SKM won 17 seats while the SDF secured 15 seats.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote in the post that thank you Arunachal Pradesh! The people of this wonderful state have given a clear mandate to the politics of development. My gratitude to you for once again expressing your faith in the BJP. Our party will continue to work even more strongly for the development of the state. He further wrote that I would like to appreciate the hard work of the extraordinary BJP Arunachal workers through the election campaign. It is commendable how they went all over the state and connected with the people.

In another post, he wrote that congratulations to SKM and CM Tamang for the victory in Sikkim Assembly Elections 2024. I look forward to working with the state government to further the progress of Sikkim in the times to come. He also wrote that I thank all those who voted for BJP Sikkim in the assembly elections. I also appreciate the efforts made by our workers. Our party will always be at the forefront in working towards the development of Sikkim and fulfilling the aspirations of the people.
