Shashi Tharoor said- Rahul Gandhi is the ‘man of the match’ of Lok Sabha elections, he should become the leader of the opposition

Tharoor, who won the Lok Sabha election from Thiruvananthapuram for the fourth consecutive time, said the message of the mandate is that the voters have rejected the “excessive arrogance” of the BJP and its “take my word or go the other way” attitude.

Congress leader Shashi Tharoor on Friday described Rahul Gandhi as the “man of the match” of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and credited him for the India Bloc’s performance in the polls. Tharoor further said that it would be appropriate if Gandhi takes over as the leader of the opposition in Parliament. Tharoor, who won the Lok Sabha election from Thiruvananthapuram for the fourth consecutive time, said that the message of the mandate is that the voters have rejected the “excessive arrogance” of the BJP and its “take my word or go the other way” attitude.

Speaking in cricket analogies, the Congress leader said Rahul Gandhi was “undoubtedly, indeed the man of the match of the election” and that the Congress “hit the ball out of the park” in many places. He (Gandhi) and Congress president (Mallikarjun) Kharge campaigned extensively across the country, but Kharge is in the Rajya Sabha where he leads the opposition and it would be appropriate that Rahul Gandhi does the same in the Lok Sabha. I have certainly expressed my view publicly and privately in that regard, Tharoor said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday met President Draupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan ahead of the formation of the government. Earlier in the day, senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Narendra Modi was on Friday unanimously elected leader of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) parliamentary party. Thus, Modi will now become the Prime Minister of the country for the third time. The BJP-led NDA has got 293 seats and has a majority in the 543-member Lok Sabha.
