According to estimates, by 2030, the number of pets in urban China alone will be almost double the number of young children across the country. If the number of dogs and cats in rural areas is included, the country’s pet ownership rate will be even higher. Goldman Sachs’ estimate reflects the changing values of a generation that no longer supports the traditional thinking that marriage means giving birth and carrying forward the family lineage.
