Trinamool leader Abhishek Banerjee met Uddhav Thackeray

Trinamool Congress general secretary Abhishek Banerjee met Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray here on Thursday. The meeting between the two prominent leaders of the ‘Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance’ (INDIA) took place amid the process of formation of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government at the Center.

The meeting lasted for more than an hour at Thackeray’s residence Matoshree in Bandra, but neither side gave details of what was discussed in the meeting. Banerjee did not speak to media persons waiting outside the former chief minister’s residence.

She was accompanied by Trinamool leader and Rajya Sabha member Derek O’Brien. Earlier, Banerjee met Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav in New Delhi. Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut told reporters that Banerjee had come to meet Thackeray as Thackeray did not go to New Delhi to attend the meeting of top leaders of the ‘India’ alliance on Wednesday.

He did not give any further information about this. Raut said that leaders of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), another constituent of the ‘India’ alliance, also spoke to Thackeray. The Shiv Sena MP said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s party BJP is in minority, but still efforts are being made to form the government.

The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance has won 293 seats in the Lok Sabha elections, which is more than the majority figure of 272 in the 543-member Lok Sabha. Out of these, the BJP alone has won 240 seats.
