On reports that Canada has charged two individuals for threatening Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and other leaders online, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, “We have seen these reports. When a democracy uses different yardsticks to measure the rule of law and freedom of expression, it is a different matter.”

On June 6, a 23-year-old man was arrested for an online post on X in which he threatened to kill Trudeau. On June 13, a 67-year-old Edmonton man was arrested for making similar threats. The alleged threats were also directed at Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland and New Democratic Party leader Jagmeet Singh.
