When the magistrate court had issued process against them, summoning them and refused to discharge them, the two had filed a revision and moved the Mumbai sessions court. However, they were late by 84 days from the outer deadline prescribed under the rules for filing the revision. Thus, condoning the delay, the sessions court had imposed a fine of Rs 2,000 on them on June 13. This money was to be deposited within the next two days. Thackeray and Raut said that they received the order on June 14 and the court’s cash counter where the money was to be deposited was closed for the next two days.
