Uttar Pradesh: Next hearing in the case related to AAP’s Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh on August 12

Sultanpur. The next hearing of the case related to accused like Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Singh and Samajwadi Party (SP) former MLA Anoop Sanda will be held on August 12 in the local MP-MLA court in Sultanpur, Uttar Pradesh. The hearing of the case was postponed due to the special judge being on leave and the proceedings of the Parliament session. MP Sanjay Singh’s lawyer Madan Singh said that there was a hearing in the above case on Friday and Sanjay Singh had to come to the court in this case, but due to Sanjay Singh’s busy schedule due to the Parliament session, I sought time by submitting an application in the court.
Special Public Prosecutor Vaibhav Pandey said that the date of 12th August has been fixed for hearing the case. According to Pandey, the MP-MLA court of Sultanpur has rejected the appeal of six convicts, including Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Sanjay Singh and Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Anup Sanda, who were convicted in the case of road blockage and dharna-demonstration over public problems and electricity crisis, and has maintained their sentence of one and a half months imprisonment.
Vaibhav Pandey said that while hearing the appeal of the convicts, Special Session Judge (MP/MLA) Ekta Verma gave this order on Tuesday. He said that on 19 June 2001, a sit-in demonstration was held near the city’s vegetable market near the overbridge under the leadership of the then Democratic Samajwadi Party leader (former MLA) Anoop Sanda to protest against the electricity crisis. Sanjay Singh, former councilor Kamal Srivastava, former councilor Vijay, other Santosh, Subhash Chaudhary etc. participated in it.
Pandey said that the police had filed a chargesheet in the court after completing the investigation and filing an FIR against the protesters. He said that after the completion of the hearing of this case, the then magistrate of the special court, Yogesh Yadav, on January 11, 2023, convicted all the six accused and sentenced them to one and a half months’ imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1500 each. Against this order, the convicts had filed an appeal in the MP-MLA court, on hearing which, their petition was dismissed on Tuesday and the sentence of one and a half months’ imprisonment and fine was upheld.
