Islamabad: Pakistan on Friday said it wants cooperative relations with all neighbours, including India, and resolution of disputes through dialogue. The remarks came after Prime Minister Narendra Modi was elected for a record third time. Addressing her weekly press briefing, Pakistan Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mumtaz Zehra Baloch said that despite difficulties and rhetoric from India, Pakistan is acting responsibly.

He said, Pakistan has always wanted cooperative relations with all its neighbors, including India. We have consistently advocated constructive dialogue and engagement to resolve all pending issues, including major disputes like Jammu and Kashmir. Pakistan downgraded its relations with India after the Indian government revoked some provisions of Article 370 on August 5, 2019. Pakistan believes that this decision has weakened the atmosphere of dialogue between neighbors.

India has consistently said it wants normal neighbourly relations with Pakistan but has insisted that for such relations it is Islamabad’s responsibility to create an environment free of terrorism and hostility. “Pakistan believes in maintaining peace. We hope that India will take steps to maintain peace and create a conducive environment for furthering dialogue and resolution of long-standing disputes for the mutual benefit of the people of both countries,” Baloch said.
