The Union Minister said that the state status of Jammu and Kashmir can be restored and assembly elections can be held there in October. He said in a press conference that assembly elections in Maharashtra, Haryana and Jharkhand are likely to be held in October. Therefore, the announcement of restoring the state status and holding assembly elections can possibly be made in October.

A team of the Election Commission of India (ECI) arrived here on Thursday to review the preparations for the assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir and to take feedback from political parties. Officials said that the team led by Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar arrived here this morning. The team will meet representatives of political parties at the ‘Sher-e-Kashmir International Auditorium’ (SKICC). The office of the Chief Electoral Officer of Jammu and Kashmir had issued letters to various political parties on Tuesday inviting them for a meeting with the ECI.
