Ajit Pawar said that Devendra Fadnavis’ offer to resign from the post of Deputy Chief Minister over the poor performance of BJP in the state in the Lok Sabha elections was not discussed in the NDA meeting in Delhi. Both the parties also gave the message of maintaining a balance between regional aspirations and national interests.

Mumbai: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar said on Friday that Devendra Fadnavis’ offer to resign from the post of deputy chief minister over the BJP’s poor performance in the state in the Lok Sabha elections was not discussed in the NDA meeting in Delhi. BJP allies-Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief N Chandrababu Naidu and Bihar Chief Minister and JD(U) chief Nitish Kumar on Friday endorsed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s name as the leader of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). Both the parties also gave the message of striking a balance between regional aspirations and national interests.

Speaking to reporters in Delhi, Ajit Pawar said Fadnavis’ offer to resign from the post of deputy chief minister is an internal matter of the BJP and there was no reason to discuss it in the NDA meeting in Delhi. Ajit Pawar’s Nationalist Congress Party has won one seat in the Lok Sabha elections. After the BJP’s seat tally in Maharashtra fell to nine from 23 in the last Lok Sabha elections, top RSS leaders met Fadnavis at his residence in Nagpur to discuss the post-poll scenario.

A day after the election results, Fadnavis had announced that he would like to resign as deputy chief minister and take up more organisational responsibilities to strengthen the BJP ahead of the upcoming assembly elections. The state is due to go to polls in six months.
