Let us tell you that on Sunday, hundreds of people protested in Sanjauli, a suburb of Shimla, known for its natural beauty and pleasant weather, against the “illegal” construction of a mosque and the attack on a businessman in the Malana area of the city. The protesters demanded that a case of attempt to murder be registered against those who attacked the businessman. They also demanded the demolition of the illegal structure. Let us tell you that the businessman was seriously injured in the attack on Friday. He suffered head injuries in the attack.

According to reports, around 500 people from different parts of the city participated in the protest and expressed concern over the increasing number of migrants from the minority community in Shimla and also demanded police verification and registration of these “outsiders”. Senior officials of the district administration reached the spot to pacify the protesters. Officials admitted that a part of the structure built on the Wakf Board land is illegal and the matter will be heard in the Municipal Court on Saturday. Officials said the matter is sensitive and it is related to the religious sentiments of the communities.
Shimla Superintendent of Police Sanjeev Kumar Gandhi said that action will be taken under the section of attempt to murder in the case of attack on the businessman and he appealed to the protesters to maintain peace. He said that the investigation of the case has been handed over to an officer of the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police. He said that migrants coming from other states will be registered. Meanwhile, a municipal official said, “The top floor of the said structure is unauthorized and proceedings are going on in the Municipal Corporation Court. The construction work has been stopped.” He said that a toilet was constructed illegally a month ago, but it was demolished after giving a 24-hour notice.
Let us tell you that the dispute started on Friday night, when half a dozen people from the minority community attacked the said businessman and some other traders in the Malana area with iron rods and sticks, in which four traders were injured. These traders were returning home at the time of the incident. The police have registered an FIR in the case.
