The Cabinet in today’s meeting has advised the President to dissolve the 17th Lok Sabha with immediate effect. The President has accepted the advice of the Cabinet and signed the order to dissolve the 17th Lok Sabha. With this, the meeting called by the NDA has ended. Narendra Modi will go with his allies to meet the President at 7:45 pm and stake claim to form the government. Dinner has also been organized at Rashtrapati Bhavan at 8 pm. Nitish Kumar and Chandrababu Naidu have offered letters of support to the BJP to form the next NDA government at the Center.

A day after the Lok Sabha election results were announced, in which the NDA won 292 seats, alliance partners today held a meeting in Delhi. The meeting was attended by Home Minister Amit Shah, TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and JDU leaders Lallan Singh and Sanjay Jha. Before attending the meeting of NDA allies in Delhi, Chandrababu Naidu said, “We are in NDA. I am going for the NDA meeting. During this, if anything happens, we will report to you.” TDP won 16 out of 25 Lok Sabha seats in Andhra Pradesh, while JDU won 12 out of 40 seats in Bihar. BJP fell short of majority this time, winning only 240 Lok Sabha seats. With the help of allies, NDA won 292 seats. Narendra Modi is set to form the government at the Centre for the third consecutive time.

The NDA met in Delhi today to take stock of the Lok Sabha election results and deliberate on details of formation of the new government, which is likely to be different in composition and character with bigger stakes for the BJP’s allies.
