Cocaine worth Rs 130 crore seized from Kutch coast of Gujarat

Thirteen unclaimed packets of cocaine, worth Rs 130 crore in the international market, were recovered from a bay area near Gandhidham town in Gujarat’s Kutch district, a police said.

Kutch East division Superintendent of Police Sagar Bagmar said preliminary investigations revealed that the smugglers had hidden the drugs near the seashore to avoid getting caught. He said this is the second major drug seizure from the same Gulf region in eight months.

“A joint team of Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) and Special Operations Group recovered 13 unclaimed packets of cocaine worth Rs 130 crore from a creek area passing through Mithi Rohar village near Gandhidham town,” he said.

Bagmar said the contraband was hidden by smugglers near the sea and the packets were similar to those recovered from the same area in September last year. He said the ATS was investigating the case.

Superintendent of Police (ATS) Sunil Joshi said, “We have recovered 13 unclaimed packets of cocaine in the wee hours from a creek area near Gandhidham in Kutch. Each packet weighs one kilogram. We have registered a case against unidentified persons and further investigation is underway.”

In September last year, the Kutch-east police had recovered 80 unclaimed packets of cocaine, each weighing one kilogram, from the same area. The amount was worth Rs 800 crore in the international market.
